ALEX BIRD CHAMPION TIPSTER 2008 
 
The Northern Racing Club Champion Tipster Competition for the Alex Bird Trophy starts with the Cheltenham Meeting in March followed be Aintree, Royal Ascot, and the York (Ebor) meeting in August. The competition is thus over four rounds with the best three scores making up the final total.
 
Each individual round carries an outright winners prize of 80% of the prize fund with the other 20% retained towards the annual prize. The entry fee is £5 per round. The competition Rules are shown below.  
 
So now it's off with the new season and a chance for us all to see if we can beat Rob McDermott last years Champion.

All  are welcome to take part, so come on, have a go and good luck to everyone.

For 2008 we are also making it easier to enter (on line). You can now pay the entry fee via Paypal and then e mail your entries (all days at same time) to alexbird@northernracingclub.com before 2pm on the first day of the meeting.

RULES OF THE ALEX BIRD COMPETITION
 
The competition is over Four Rounds Cheltenham, Aintree, Royal Ascot, York (Ebor). If One of these Meetings is cancelled another Meeting will be nominated.  
 
1. One selection is made in each race for every day of the meeting .Selections must be for either a named horse or a specific trainers entry, but you can nominate.' The Favourite'
once each day, but only once, so please do not exceed the quota otherwise the entry for that day will be invalid.
2. Points awarded on the basis of :15 for a win,10 for a second, 5 for a third, 2 for a fourth (when applicable) only in H/Caps of 16 or more runners. In races of 5-7 runners only 1st and 2nd will count and where 4 runners or less, only the Winner will count. 10 extra points will be awarded when your selection wins at 20-1 or higher. and 5 extra points if 10 -1 or more. A bonus of 10
Points will be awarded for the winners (but not the places) of each days feature race -  this is in addition to the S.P. Bonus.
3. Non-Runner the selection transfers on to the Favourite. In the event of joint Favourites the selection is the lowest  Race Card Number. 

4.  Entries may include a second selection which will apply if the original choice is a non runner, otherwise 'on the favourite will operate
5. Entry fee is £5  per round.

6. Multiple entries are acceptable, but each entry must be accompanied by the appropriate fee. The entries must also be numbered e.g.  Entry 2 in round one, will be coupled with Entry 2 in future rounds.
7.The winner of each round will be the person with the highest points total. In the event of a tie, the prize money goes to the entry with the most winning selections. The winner will receive 80% of the total entry fees with the other 20% retained the annual winner's prize. 
8.The Winner of the Alex Bird  Trophy will be the entrant with the highest three totals from the four rounds of the N.R.C. Competition .The Champion Tipster will hold the Trophy for a year.
8.Scores for each round, and overall positions will be updated in 'RACIN' and on the web site.
Entries may be handed in on preview nights or posted to ALAN PRESTON, 55,SHARON PARK CLOSE, GRAPPENHALL, WARRINGTON WA4 2YN.Postal/E Mail entries must be timed/postmarked no later than 2-00 p.m. on the first day of the meeting.
